At Kie Balam, we want you to make the most of your stay in Quetzaltenango. For a truly immersive experience, we highly recommend staying with one of our welcoming Guatemalan host families.
All of our host families live within a short walking distance of the school and Xela's Historic Center. This means you can easily stroll to your daily classes, explore the city, and meet up with classmates for afternoon activities.
Every host family package includes:

If you already have your accommodation sorted and just want to focus on learning Spanish, our Classes Only package is perfect for you. As a Kie Balam student, your enrollment includes:

Learn Spanish from anywhere! Kie Balam offers online classes with our native teachers, available Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM (Guatemala Time)

Your first class includes an evaluation of your Spanish level.

All classes are held via Google Meet.

Schedules are subject to teacher availability.

With a valid reason, missed classes can be made up on Saturdays.
Optional Airport Pick-Up Service
Option 1 - $55 (Same-Day Travel)
If your flight arrives early in the day, our staff member, Miriam, will meet you at the airport and take you directly to the bus station so you can travel to Quetzaltenango that same day.

Option 2 - $80 (Next-Day Travel)
If your flight arrives late or you simply prefer to rest before the journey, Miriam will take you from the airport to our guesthouse in Guatemala City for a comfortable overnight stay. The next morning, after breakfast, you will be transferred to the bus station to continue your trip. You can choose the departure time that works best for you.

Send us your itinerary: Please let us know your exact arrival date and flight details in advance so we can coordinate your pick-up seamlessly.

Travel times: For same-day travel (Option 1), we highly recommend catching a bus to Quetzaltenango before 3:00 PM. The journey takes approximately 4 to 6 hours, so traveling earlier ensures you won't arrive at Kie Balam too late in the evening.
